Time Square and Theater Tickets

New York City's Time Square requires little introduction. It is one of the most filmed or photographed street corner in the world. The area is filled with billboards and giant television screens, making Time Square one of the most vibrant zones in New York.

Within walking distance from Time Square is, Broadway, the world famous theater district. Shows are on everyday all year round. However, if you are after a particular show, you should check the schedule before hand.

Show lovers can purchase their tickets from their favorite theaters or through tkts. Most tourist would have heard from friends or from online sources that “there is a place in New York that offers discounted / cheap theater tickets", but not sure where to find this place. Well, actually "tkts" is that place, they have a website as well as iPhone and Android apps.

You can find one of tkts ticket booth at Time Square. You can't miss it! There is a sign next to the booths, showing the available shows for that night and discount offered over original price. The same information is available on their smartphone apps. Tkts Time Square starts selling tickets at 3pm. Queue starts forming from 2pm. At around 2:30pm, tkts staff would explain the "procedures" to the crowd with a sense of humor. Once they starts selling at 3pm, the queues are digested within 30 minutes.

We spend $140 US on two $70 ticket on Chicago. According to tkts, it was 40% off the original price. Our seats are at the forth row from the stage on the side. One can almost smell the odor of the performers from that distance. We had a great time as it was our first experience in an actual theater of this class. Next time however, I will seek where there are cheaper tickets from seat at the balcony, which is on the second level and further away from the stage.

Next time when you visit New York, whether you are show lovers or not, experience queuing up at Time Square for Broadway tickets!
